AMERICAS: POLAR OPPOSITES
Between North, Central and South America, I would be lying if I said I don't have a favourite. I absolutely love South America and I would move there tomorrow, if someone gave me a practical solution on how to. As long as you're carrying 90% DEET spray around the Amazon, the largest natural rainforest in the world, try to learn a bit of Spanish (they will let you off in Brazil, although watch out for the odd look of despair), then you'll have a great time. It's the first time I met the laziest and happiest animal: the Sloth, as well as a butterfly with 88 on it's wings, a Tucan bird and of course... llamas. I love llamas.
Central America is a bit of an extension of South America, full of interesting beaches and Islands and volcanoes (you probably won't find any magma). My favourite memory was a group of us cycling around an island in Nicaragua for 26km in search for Ojo de Agua, natural spring pools in 30 degrees heat and intermittent monsoon-style rain. We survived and earned some 'Coco Locos' which involve coconut water and rum, obviously. If you don't like rum, after visiting South and Central America, you probably will. Cuba Libres or Caipirinhas por favor!
Alcohol and wildlife aside, I was astounded by the landscapes, the locals and their love for football and culture in both South and Central America.
As for North America, I have only visited New York and Toronto, so my views are even more biased towards the South, but my highlights were probably Niagara Falls and the CN Tower in Canada, and Brooklyn Bridge and the view from the Empire State Building in New York. Two of my friends have been going on about a road trip in the U.S.A. so watch this space...
Visited: USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay
Wishlist: Mexico, Belize, Cuba, Greenland, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela
